In this review, we will discuss and review one of the Japanese dramas titled Tokyo Dogs. This JDrama is one of the recommended detective-themed Japanese dramas that you must watch.
This drama stars Shun Oguri as an elite detective from the New York police department named Sou Takakura, and Hiro Mizushima as Maruo Kudo, a member of the detective team in the Japanese police force. This Japanese drama aired on Fuji TV on October 19, 2009, with a total of 10 episodes.
The story begins when Detective Takakura was a child, precisely 17 years ago, when his father, who was a Japanese detective, was shot dead right in front of him by a gang member. This incident motivated him to become the detective he is today.
Now, Sou Takakura is an elite detective in the New York police department but is transferred to the Japanese police force due to a mistake he made while on duty. In Tokyo, Detective Takakura, who is cool, rigid, calculative, and not good at small talk, is paired with a detective who has a completely different personality, Detective Maruo Kudo.
Detective Kudo is a former motorcycle gang member before joining the police force. He is sociable, somewhat of a playboy, and careless. Although they initially had trouble working together, they gradually managed to cooperate and solve many cases together.
While raiding an international drug mafia organization, they encounter Yuki Matsunaga (Yuriko Yoshitaka) who is unconscious at the scene. When she regains consciousness, Matsunaga has lost her memory even though she is the key witness in the case.
Therefore, Detectives Takakura and Kudo are tasked with monitoring and guarding Matsunaga 24/7, meaning they must always stay close to her. As the investigation progresses and Matsunaga's memory slowly returns, many things are revealed, including the truth behind the murder of Detective Takakura's father 17 years ago.
Besides the numerous shootout scenes presented in this drama, there is also plenty of comedy that can make the audience laugh. If you want to watch a detective drama with a touch of comedy, I highly recommend this Japanese drama.
